We don't test safes ourselves. We compare published specs, independent certifications and public safety records.
Our pick is the Stealth Premier 23 PR23. Two things separate a long gun safe from a cabinet: a burglary rating someone outside the company stands behind, and enough steel and fire lining to matter. On Amazon, only two makers in our pool state a UL RSC burglary rating at all, Stealth and AMSEC, and the PR23 pairs that rating with heavier body steel than most safes its size. Every other number on this page is a maker's claim, and the spec table labels it that way. Our guide to UL RSC and other security ratings explains what the burglary rating does and does not test. For handguns and smaller boxes, start at the gun safe hub.
We looked for a stated UL RSC rating, a fire claim with a time and a temperature, heavy steel, a backup plan for the lock, and no matching CPSC action. The PR23 meets all of that except one: its fire rating names no lab, and we could not confirm the RSC rating in UL's directory, which requires a login. Stealth is Dean Safe Company's house brand, and Dean Safe is the seller on Amazon, so warranty claims go to the people who shipped it.
It is not the largest safe here. If you have a big collection, the Stealth UL50 has the same stated rating with room for far more, at the cost of thinner steel.
The AMSEC NF6036 is the only pick with a fire rating tied to a named lab: AMSEC's authorised dealer Dean Safe lists it as ETL verified, and also lists a UL RSC Level I burglary rating. The Amazon listing mentions neither, so we show both as listing claims rather than certified. It is also the heaviest safe here after the Steelwater MAX.
We did not make it the top pick for one reason: on 2026-10-17 its only Amazon seller was a general reseller with one unit left. For a safe that arrives by freight, the seller matters. If you buy it, confirm delivery terms with the seller first.
Every pick states a fire duration and a temperature. Those figures are not comparable with each other unless you know the test, and on Amazon none of these makers names one. A furnace that ramps slowly to a high temperature is a different test from one that holds a lower temperature from the start. Read how fire claims on gun safes work before paying more for a longer number.
We also found listings that contradict themselves:
The Bandit 19 is on the California DOJ roster and has an established maker. On 2026-10-17 its only Amazon seller was a tyre retailer, and we could not confirm that seller is an authorised Winchester Safes dealer. A heavy safe from an unconfirmed seller can leave you without a warranty path, so we left it out. Cannon's one full-size listing and two Stealth UL models were out of stock on the same day.
None of the seven models matched a CPSC recall or warning in our searches on 2026-10-17. Two brands have actions on other products, which we name here:
Liberty, Browning and Champion don't sell full-size gun safes on Amazon, and neither does Stack-On. We name them so you know their absence is about where they are sold, not a verdict on the safes. We don't link to other sellers yet.
If a long gun safe is more than you need, our best gun cabinet roundup covers steel cabinets without fire or burglary ratings, and gun safe vs gun cabinet explains when that trade is reasonable. Read how we rate for the labels in the table.
A sealed safe traps moisture, and a safe in a basement or garage traps more. Our gun safe dehumidifier roundup explains whether a heater rod or a rechargeable desiccant suits your safe.
