We don't test safes ourselves. We compare published specs, independent certifications and public safety records. For this guide we read every KAER listing on Amazon through Amazon's product data feed on 2026-10-17: 24 listings, 23 of them gun cabinets and one a home safe.
Our verdict on KAER
A KAER gun safe is a gun cabinet: a sheet-steel locker with a keypad, fingerprint reader or key. That is a useful thing to own if your goal is keeping children and visitors away from your guns. It is not what most people mean by a gun safe, which adds a fire lining, heavy steel and, on better models, an independent burglary rating.
KAER doesn't hide this. None of its listings claims a fire rating or a burglary rating. The confusion comes from the word "safe" in the titles, and from review pages that rank KAER beside rated safes without saying what separates them.
What the 24 listings say, and don't say
- No fire rating. None of the 23 gun cabinet listings makes a fire claim. The only "fireproof" wording on any KAER listing describes a bonus fabric document bag packed with the one home safe.
- No burglary rating. No listing names UL, ETL or any other lab, and none states a UL RSC rating.
- No California DOJ claim. KAER is not a manufacturer on the California DOJ roster of firearm safety devices, and no KAER listing claims to be on it.
- Thin steel, where stated. Eight listings state a steel gauge, all between 13 and 16 gauge. California's gun-safe standard asks for a 12-gauge body, and a higher gauge number means thinner steel.
- Capacity as a range. Titles give capacity as ranges such as "20-25 gun". Treat the top of the range as marketing; scoped rifles take far more room.
- No warranty in the listing. No title or feature bullet states a warranty term. Ask the seller before you buy.
Who you are buying from
The KAER name appears across several Amazon storefronts. On 2026-10-17 Amazon.com itself sold 6 of the 24 listings. The rest came from third-party sellers trading under other names, plus one storefront called KAER Direct, and one listing had no current offer. When Amazon is the seller, returns follow Amazon's terms. Otherwise, read the seller's return policy, because a heavy cabinet is expensive to send back.
Recall check
Our CPSC site search and recall database search for KAER on 2026-10-17 found no recall or warning. That is not a safety certification. Several KAER cabinets use fingerprint readers, and biometric gun safes from other marketplace brands have been recalled after opening for fingers nobody enrolled. If you buy one, enrol your fingers, then check that other people's fingers fail.
When a KAER cabinet makes sense, and when it doesn't
It makes sense if you need to lock up a few long guns away from children or guests, the cabinet will be bolted down and out of sight, and fire and theft are not your main worries.
It doesn't if you live in California and need a "secure gun safe" under the state's storage law, if you are protecting guns you couldn't replace, or if a house fire is a real risk where you live.
